Inspired by soaring skyscrapers, science fiction, and barcodes, Escape Pod is a striking typeface characterized by tall, high contrast strokes. Narrow apertures exaggerate height, while the bottom-heavy line weight adds monumentality to each letterform.
To create Escape Pod, I developed a modular grid which would apply to every letterform. This allowed me to apply a set of consistent design rules to each new letter. I sketched a handful of letters on paper before digitizing and making adjustments.
I created a short, playful animation to showcase the type system and grid on social media. The letter 'O' launches out of a grid-shaped cannon, becoming a literal escape pod and forming the title of the font.
